We need SCREENS!!!

Bad news, there are over 40 species of mosquitoes in Maine. Good news, only half are bite people! Having a place in Maine, especially one as far out in the woods as ours means there are going to be mosquitoes! We have several SkeeterVacs that help (quite a lot), but it doesn't get all of them. So the first thing we did in the spring of 2009 was to install screens. What we used had 2 parts, the first part is an aluminum frame that got screwed onto the logs. The second part is a vinyl cap that hold the screen in place. The picture below shows how the two pieces fit together (there is no screen here).

Just to remind you what part of the cabin is going to be screened:

Yep, that whole front section is going to be screened in. Notice the scaffolding, they are 16.5 feet high! Here is a picture of Rick, he is on a 6' step ladder on top of the scaffolding. We decided that I wouldn't have to (be allowed to-according to Rick) get up that high.

This is me installing the aluminum frames on the cross beams.

Here's what it looks like with all the screens installed. You can see the darkening of the openings, but to have a bug free place to spend our leisure time, it's worth it!
