Preserving the exterior

The company we got the log cabin from provides a life-time guarantee from bug or wood-rot damage IF we put preservative on the exterior of the cabin every 3 years! And the materials for the first application come free. The recommendation is to wait 3-6 months after the cabin is erected be for applying the preservative. So we waited until this spring to do it.

Actually, I did most of the work, because Rick had other things to do inside the cabin (which I'll talk about later).

I started out using our sprayer, but it only holds a quart at time and I had to use a brush to back-brush after spraying anyway. So after just a bit of that, I switched to just using the 6" brush. After all, it's not as if there is any technique to this. The only requirement was to not get any on you. So I also started with a full Tyvek suit, a respirator, goggles and a hat But, it was hot and I was outside so that didn't last long.

I did keep the Tyvek suit on to keep from splattering the preservative onto my legs. It was very oily and hard to clean off.

Here are some pictures, the first is me spraying with the suit, respirator, goggles and hat. The second is with just the suit. Later in the summer, I was in shorts and a sleeveless top!

I'm standing 10' up!!
